EVM ramps up amid ‘hard Brexit’ fears

Minibus supplier EVM has been steadily ramping production back up to pre-covid levels since July, with a raft of new deliveries to customers all over the UK and Ireland.

“We are cautiously optimistic about the reminder of 2020,” said Danny Mcgee, Managing Director of EVM. “ Deliveries have remained solid with only a handful of customers delaying handover of their new vehicles.

“The real challenge facing customers at the moment is the implications of Brexit looming large on the horizon”.

With the UK and EU apparently moving farther away from agreement, the prospect of substantial price increases to new vehicles from the 1 January is a real risk to companies who are already looking for a solid footing to make their way out of 2020 and its covid-19 hangover.

In the event of the UK emerging from the EU without an agreement on the 31 December, customers will face a minimum additional cost of 10% to all vehicles entering the UK. As a result of this the Irish manufacturer has noted an increase requirement for vehicles to be delivered and registered prior to this date.

“We have altered our factory planning to meet customers requirements for December delivery, with increased capacity in all areas. This is a real concern for our customers who are not prepared to face additional costs going into an already uncertain first quarter of 2021,” warned Danny. “ We are very well placed to handle any additional demand with chassis in stock ready to build for customers.”

As the clock ticks down and operators try to forecast what 2021 may bring to their already depleted coffers, this may offer some additional respite!
