Epsom Ride and Drive

Over 120 staff and their families enjoyed Epsom Coaches’ Ride and Drive day, the first in a series of events to celebrate the firm’s 95th anniversary. It was held at Kempton Park racecourse and saw a range of vehicles laid on for the participants, including a 1950 RT Double Decker, a 1953 Guy, a 1965 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud and a 1971 Morris Minor. There were also examples from the present day bus and coach fleet. A reversing competition was also arranged, culminating in a prize for the best amateur and professional driver.

MD, Steve Whiteway, said, ‘The idea was for our drivers to experience what is was like to drive buses from yesteryear, with no power steering or other modern equipment, they did really well, as did the “amateur drivers” who were experiencing driving large vehicles for the first time; we need to sign them up! This coupled with the opportunity to drive two iconic 60’s cars at both ends of the affordability spectrum was a unique opportunity and taken up with relish. The idea of the day was to give everyone the opportunity to experience something unique and for many a once in a lifetime experience. In that we certainly succeeded and it was wonderful to see our family of staff enjoying a relaxed Sunday together.’
