Epsom go 1920s style
As part of Epsom Coaches celebrations of 95 years since its founding in 1920, the company undertook to recreate its first ever journey from Epsom to Brighton. The coach was driven by Project Manager, Peter Minnette, who took along MD of Epsom Coaches, Steve Whiteway, himself a former coach driver, to tell all 48 travellers the history of the long established company on route. Both Peter and Steve were dressed in 1920’s style with a long ‘Ice Cream’ coat, a white hat and white gloves. In the early days it took five hours to reach Brighton, but even taking the scenic route, the latest Epsom coach made it in 90 minutes.
Steve Whiteway said, ‘Peter and I certainly created a stir with our smart uniforms, our customers had a great day out and they tell me they enjoyed learning about the history of Epsom Coaches, whilst taking in the scenery. We celebrated this milestone by charging the same as we did in 1920, just £1, but everyone generously contributed to our charity of the year and we raised £515 on the day. All in all another memorable day, which I am sure will be remembered for a long time to come.’
