‘End of an era’ as Travel Wright to close
Newark-based Travel Wright is to close in early April.
The operator made the announcement on its Facebook page and website. The management team of David, Paula and Colin Wright are looking to retire. According to the post announcing the news, they say they have been seeking a buyer for the business to allow it to go on as a going concern. However, this has not happened.
The statement on the operator’s website said: “It has been a difficult decision to make and will be a very sad day for our family, our staff and we are sure our customers too.”
The website went on to say a ‘final decision will be announced on or around 18 February’.
The company says it remains solvent and it intends to honour all of its bookings, up to and including 3 April in addition to operating the excursion to London to see Wicked on 6 April.
“…it will be a very sad day and we trust you will agree the end of an era in Newark” – Travel Wright
The statement on the website, signed off by David, Colin and Paula, said: “We will continue to support our staff and would like to thank them for their loyalty and for helping us to achieve what we hope will be an honourable exit.”
It continued: “We would like to extend a huge thank you to our excursion and holiday passengers, schools, private hire customers and businesses, indeed all who have supported us over the years; it will be a very sad day and we trust you will agree the end of an era in Newark.”
