Durham council now owns all stations

Durham County Council has completed the purchase of Peterlee bus station. The deal means the local authority now owns all of the bus stations in County Durham. The Council claims this allows for greater coordination countywide, as well as more control in managing and allocating bus services at the station. The Council says passengers can look forward to better facilities and improved maintenance of the site. It aims to install proper seating after the original seats were destroyed after being vandalised. Although money was available to improve the facilities, the council was unable to carry out any work as it did not own the site. Other improvements are also on the cards.

Cabinet member for economic regeneration, Cllr Neil Foster, said, ‘We’re delighted to announce the purchase of Peterlee bus station and look forward to making public transport better and more convenient for the people of East Durham.’
