Devizes is Coach Friendly . . .
Devizes in Wiltshire has been awarded CPT’s Coach Friendly status, the 20th location in the UK to now hold the title. Having received a bid for the status from Devizes Tourism Partnership earlier in the year, CPT executives John Burch and Cathy Summers visited the historic market town to review the application and subsequently award them the status. It has two coach parks (Canal Wharf and Station Road), coach bays in New Park Street and a facility for coach drivers. All are ideally located for those visiting many of its key attractions, which include Wadworth’s Brewery, Wiltshire Museum and the Kennet and Avon Canal Wharf Museum.
CPT’s Manager for the South Western region, John Burch, said, ‘It was clear to see during my recent visit that the Tourism Partnership are extremely enthusiastic about the project and have put a huge amount of effort in to making Devizes a real must visit coaching destination. The town centre and market areas are extremely welcoming to coach parties and there really is something for everyone. The hard work starts now. I look forward to seeing Devizes continuing to work to welcome and accommodate coaches and passengers to this great town.’
. . . and so is Burnham-on-Sea
CPT UK has also announced that the coastal town of Burnham-on-Sea in Somerset has been awarded ‘Coach Friendly’ status. The status acknowledges the commitment that Burnham has made to understanding the requirements of coaches and their passengers, whilst also providing first class facilities and information sources for drivers. The town, with the support of Burnham Chamber of Trade, Somerset Tourism Association and Sedgemoor District, Somerset County and Burnham Town councils, has been working on ‘Project Coach’ for the past two years. This plan has seen the development and implementation of a coach website, incorporating detailed maps and discount vouchers for drivers, as well as new and improved signage, a dedicated drivers’ rest area and a notice board displaying information on the town’s major attractions.
