Demand sees York tour bus frequency double

Rising demand for York City Sightseeing‘s open-top tour bus means its timetable is to be doubled to four journeys an hour.

From 8 August, the Transdev-run service is to double its services to every 15 minutes. Rising demand for seats on the tour this week has prompted the use of two buses on several departures to cater for families visiting York during the summer holidays while ensuring safe social distancing on board.

Transdev CEO, Alex Hornby, said: “Our City Sightseeing York tour buses play a vital role in showcasing the best of York to visitors, while making sure the city’s tourism economy returns safely to its place at the heart of our economy.

“We’re delighted to see more and more people enjoying our unique tour in the company of our amazing live guides, as they bring their own blend of fun and facts together to entertain visitors as they enjoy unrivalled views of York’s historic landmarks.

“With demand increasing every day, it’s the right time to double our service to run every 15 minutes – making City Sightseeing York’s red tour buses the most frequent as well as the friendliest way to safely discover our beautiful city.”

City Sightseeing York has achieved the “We’re Good to Go” accreditation from tourism agency VisitEngland, which gives customers confidence the operator has all social distancing and cleanliness measures are in place.
