Channel crossings: prepare for delays says CPT

Security concerns at Dover coupled with very high traffic expected over the Bank Holiday weekend has led to warnings of delays.

Increased security on journeys passing into France is expected to be a near permanent fixture for the foreseeable future, says the Confederation of Passenger Transport. From the UK, this is affecting traffic through both Eurotunnel and the ferries. There are also increased checks on routes from other countries and coaches should be prepared for increased security at any border crossing when travelling into France.

CPT recommendations include:

• Ensure all screen notices showing the type of group on board are displayed.

• Instruct all drivers to co-operate fully with UK exit check staff, PAF officials and Port staff. This will help minimise delays.

• Ensure ALL travel documents are available for inspection and advise passengers that they will be required to disembark for checking and to carry the documents with them.

Saturday traffic will be exceptional, with the 0600-1200 period the busiest.
