Centrebus invests as patronage grows
Passenger growth has helped fuel Centrebus’ investment in seven new Volvo MCV eVoRa single-deckers for a Stoke route. They represent an investment of £1.2m and will be joined by even more vehicles as the company continues to invest.
The new Volvos are for use on the company’s D&G Bus business’ ‘the nines’ service connecting Biddulph and Clayton via key stops in Hanley, Newcastle, and Stoke. The new Volvos have USB charging points for passengers.
“Alongside the seven buses acquired for ‘the nines’ service, we have an additional 11 vehicles scheduled for delivery this year” – David Brookes, Managing Director for D&G Bus
David Brookes, Managing Director for D&G Bus, said: “These new buses are not only environmentally friendly, with low emissions that contribute to improved air quality in the city, but they also prioritise passenger comfort.
“We chose the Volvo Evora combination due to our recent positive experiences with these buses across our business. Their reliability and build quality have impressed us, and we’ve received favourable feedback from both drivers and passengers.
“Alongside the seven buses acquired for ‘the nines’ service, we have an additional 11 vehicles scheduled for delivery this year, with several more expected in 2025.”
D&G Bus attributes the recent surge in passenger numbers to a successful Enhanced Partnership initiative. A standout achievement has been the Affordable Fares Scheme, which operates under the Partnership’s funding. By eliminating the price premium for multi-operator tickets, passengers have benefited from simplified fare options, which the operator says makes public transport in Stoke more accessible and attractive.
David Brookes emphasised the power of partnership: “Our success demonstrates what can be achieved when operators and local authorities work together. We are committed to continually improving our offering in Stoke and this investment in new buses is a testament to that commitment.”
