Bus usage falls again
Bus use has continued to fall according to DfT’s statistics covering the year ending December 2015. The number of local bus passenger journeys in England was 4.57bn, a 2% decrease overall with London falling 2.2% and England outside London down 1.7%. Comparing the three months October to December 2015 with the same period in 2014, the rate of fall increased to 3.6% in London and 2.4% in England outside London. Passenger journeys decreased in Wales and Scotland too.
Comparing the local bus fares index figures for England for December 2015 with December 2014, there was an increase of 2.7% made up of 2.7% in London, 3.3% in metropolitan areas and 2.3% in non-metropolitan regions. The retail prices index went up by 1.2% over the same 12 month period. Local bus fares increased by 3.2% in Scotland and 1.1% in Wales.
