Brett Lambley 1973-2023

Safeguard Coaches has announced the sad passing of their esteemed Engineering Manager Brett Lambley – who was just 49 – following a brave, three-year battle with cancer.

Brett joined the Company in 1998 aged 24 and served the family-owned company for over 25 years, being promoted during that time from Vehicle Technician to Workshop Foreman (2004) and then Engineering Manager (2007). Before joining Safeguard, Brett worked with Dennis (now ADL) and Grays Trucks in Guildford as well as his family’s Blue Saloon bus and coach operation and another local bus operator.

Responsible for its entire bus and coach fleet, workshops, staff and premises, Brett was a true ‘go to’ person who knew every quirk of every vehicle from the newest to the Company’s iconic 1956 AEC Reliance, could diagnose every fault or knew a man that could, and seemingly knew nearly everyone on the supplier side of the industry.

Recognising his significant abilities, he won the prestigious Bus Engineer of the Year Award in 2006.

With Brett being very personable, tributes have been pouring in for a man who everyone seemed to know and like. He will be much missed by all who knew him as a father, husband, son, friend, colleague or acquaintance. Brett leaves a widow and two young children.

Anyone connected with Safeguard Coaches is warmly invited to an informal event in remembrance and gratitude for Brett’s life. This will be held at The Anchor & Horseshoes, 194 London Road, Burpham, Guildford GU1 1XR on Friday 17 November 2023 from 1830 hours to 2100 hours. A light buffet and drinks will be served. RSVP is not required.
