Bourton-on-the-Water coach parking must now be booked online
Coach parking in Bourton-on-the-Water must now be booked in advance online.
The online booking was introduced in January and follows news that the closure of the coach park in the popular Cotswolds tourist destination was to be put off until the end of this year. It was originally meant to close at the end of last year.
A booking system through the Bourton-on-the-Water Visitor Information Centre can be used to book a coach parking space at the site. Two-hour blocks for parking are being made available.
Eight allocated coach parking bays are available in the Bourton Vale Parking car park on Station Road. Parking in these must be pre-booked before arrival and there is no provision for drop-off or pick-up in these arrangements. ANPR is in operation at the site to ensure the bays are used by pre-booked coaches.
A Bourton-on-the-Water tourism website highlights that coaches are prohibited from entering the village via Lansdowne or from passing through the village High Street. All coaches are urged to enter and exit via Station Road.
Minibuses of 16 seats and under are not subject to the pre-booking arrangement and can pay on site via card or app only. There are no other locations in the village for drop-off or collection of passengers.
The new arrangement is set to operate until 31 December 2023 when the coach park is due to permanently close.
According to Bourton-on-the-Water Parish Council, Cotswolds District Council has been asked to include coach parking in the Rissington Road car park, a short drive from the current coach park, but at the time of going to press nothing had been agreed on this. According to the Parish Council’s 9 January meeting minutes, this means there is currently no future provision for 50-seater coach parking or drop-off points after the closure of the coach park. Up to 19-seater coaches are expected to continue to be allowed to park at Bourton Vale car park after 31 December 2023.
