Bolton Bus Station gets arty

An art exhibition was recently held at Bolton Bus Station. Entitled ‘In Transit’, the display included photographs and large scale mural paintings on hoardings at the Moor Lane station, as well as short films and sound recordings. Researched and developed by University of Bolton Fine Art graduates, Steph Shipley and Andy Smith, the exhibition celebrated the history of the station before bus operations move to the new, high quality modern interchange in 2016. The two students previously held a public art event in May this year as part of their community engagement project relating to the Bolton interchange development. At this event, they invited people to board two vintage Bolton buses, provided by the Museum of Transport, Manchester and the Bolton Bus Preservation Group, to share their memories of travelling by bus in and around Bolton in the 1950s, 60s and 70s. Their stories were then captured using film, photography, sound recordings and painting.
