Avondale wins SPT court appeal

Strathclyde partnership for Transport (SPT) has lost an appeal against a ruling in favour of Clydebank based Avondale Coaches at Glasgow Sheriff Court. Sheriff Principle, Craig Scott QC, upheld the original ruling by the Court that SPT acted in an unreasonable manner when it cancelled the Ayr Coast dial-a-bus contract operated by Avondale in 2009, ten months before it was due to expire. According to press reports, SPT has been ordered to pay £100,000 in damages plus legal costs to Avondale.

A SPT spokesperson said, ‘We have received the Sheriff Court’s decision and have no further comment to make at this time.’

Avondale Coaches had not made a statement at the time of going to press.
