£7m for Rotherham buses

Rotherham Bus Partnership has invested £7m in 32 new buses for the town’s network. The vehicles will be used on routes to Barnsley, Doncaster and Sheffield. Stagecoach has introduced ten new Euro6 ADL Enviro200 MMC single deckers, operating on its 22X route between Barnsley, Wombwell, Wath, Manvers, Parkgate and Rotherham. First South Yorkshire has put into operation 22 Euro6 Wrightbus Streetdecks on its X78 route between Sheffield, Rotherham and Doncaster. The vehicles come complete with e-leather seats and USB charging points. The Partnership consists of First South Yorkshire, Stagecoach Yorkshire, Stagecoach East Midlands, TM Travel, South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) and Rotherham Council. The new vehicles are part of an ongoing investment commitment by the group, which formed in 2014. It has been seen to improve punctuality, reliability, value for money tickets and increases in patronage.

Rotherham Council’s Advisory Cabinet Member for Jobs and the Local Economy, Cllr Denise Lelliott, believes the introduction of the new vehicles will encourage more people to travel by bus. She said, ‘There’s never been a better time to visit Rotherham, particularly given our recent success in the Great British High Street awards. So it really is worth hopping on your local bus and coming to Rotherham to find out why we officially have Britain’s best town centre High Street!’
