£6m Castleford station opens

West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s new £6m Castleford Bus Station has been opened. It has been designed to provide the 12,000 people who use it every day with a more comfortable waiting environment, better information and improved facilities. In addition to a covered waiting concourse, the new facility features 24 hour monitored CCTV, electronic departure information, passenger help points and space for a retail outlet. Its opening hours are 05.00 to 23.15 Monday to Saturday and 08.00 to 23.15 on Sundays. The site was described as the first major transport project completed under the West Yorkshire Combined Authority banner by Cllr Peter Box, Chair of West Yorkshire Combined Authority and Leader of Wakefield Council. Whilst unveiling a plaque to mark the occasion, he also said it will be the first of many schemes launched under the plan.
