4×4 coach tours?

In a past life, I did a lot of off-road driving for a Land Rover magazine. It was enormous fun, and I still have a passion for it.

Browsing the web the other day, I wandered on to Unvi’s website to discover that something which existed only in my dreams is built by Unvi – a 4×4 coach. It’s a 35-seater and I am now wondering if this has any commercial application.

The midicoach, from the Cimo range, appears to be based on an MAN light truck chassis – maybe its TGM 13.290 – and a video on the Unvi website sees it engaged in some light ‘soft roading’ though my suspicion is that the restriction in its ability has been the driver behind the wheel.

So, 4×4 midicoach anyone?

Greener Journeys has put some figures to the epidemic of isolation which the UK’s fractured communities are suffering – estimating that a third of bus users climb aboard for some human company.

More than eight in ten youngsters said they felt lonely, and almost half over-65s. Whether you think those estimates accurate or not, they flag up a shameful lack of effort going into engaging with isolated people.

Any bus company looking for a Corporate and Social Responsibility angle to adorn their annual report should be paying attention; bus companies and their drivers can make a real difference to vulnerable people’s lives. – Ed
