47 Volvo hybrids for Sweden

Volvo Buses has secured an order for 47 hybrid buses from Nobina. They are for use on inner-city operations in the cities of Sundsvall and Örnsköldsvik. This is the manufacturer’s largest hybrid order in its home country to date. It encompasses 36 Volvo 7900 Hybrids and 11 Volvo 7900 Hybrid articulated buses, as well as 11 diesel powered Volvo 8900 low entry buses, all of which meet Euro6 standards. The 18m articulated hybrid is the latest addition to the manufacturer’s range and can carry up to 154 passengers, which it claims is more than any other hybrid bus on the market. The first 30 will start operating in Sundsvall and Örnsköldsvik in mid-June, with the remainder being delivered in the autumn.

Fleet Manager at Nobina, Martin Atterhall, said, ‘The new hybrid buses produce extremely low exhaust emissions and are far quieter in operation than the buses they replace. This will be noticed in the form of improved air quality and less noise in the city.’
