Reading’s new control room is ‘most modern’

Reading Buses is investing £250,000 in what it describes as one of the most modern control rooms of its kind in the country with a hoped for April opening. Reading Buses CEO, James Freeman, said, ‘We have sought to bring the control facility up to date using the latest technology to give our controllers the best chance of keeping buses running on time in the increasingly congested environment of Reading. In particular, the new control room will allow us to manage several incidents simultaneously thereby greatly improving what we can do at times of disruption such as floods, snow, road closures and the many other things which can disrupt the regular operation of our bus services. Another feature will be the inclusion of a direct feed from Reading Borough Council’s CCTV cameras which will enable controllers to see the traffic situation they are having to deal with in real time.’
