Brighton services saved

Brighton & Hove Bus Company and Compass Travel have stepped in to protect a series of journeys to be withdrawn by Brighton & Hove City Council. The services in question are the evening and Sunday runs on routes 21/21A, 38/38A and the peak time service 84, which are currently operated on tenders let by the council. The local authority announced the withdrawal of the contract payments for these services from December this year.

Brighton & Hove Buses will continue to operate the 84 as now from December. From the same date, the bus operator will also run Sunday services on 21/21A as now and an evening service will be preserved maintaining all but a few journeys in the mid to late evening. From April, Compass Travel will be taking over operation of the main daytime route between Meadowview, City Centre and Bristol Estate with a new 37 service (incorporating route 38) complementing their existing 37B to give a half-hourly frequency over the main part of the route. Negotiations are continuing between the council and the operator with regards to evening 37 services.
