Big Lemon gets bigger

Brighton based The Big Lemon has added five public bus routes to its operation. This adds to its currently operated Route 52, between Brighton station, Ovingdean and Woodingdean. The service is being joined by routes 16, 66, 47, 56 and 57. The routes were awarded by Brighton and Hove Council.

MD, Norman Baker, said: “This is a tremendous vote of confidence in The Big Lemon and shows that our combination of a top-class service, superbly friendly drivers and our cutting edge commitment to the environment, has won through. We are determined to show this was the right decision by delivering a great service for our passengers and for the city as a whole, persuading more people out of their cars and onto buses. Residents in Ovingdean and East Saltdean in particular will be benefitting from extra and later journey options than at present.”

Founder and CEO, Tom Druitt, said: “We’re on a mission to enable everyone to get around their community in an enjoyable, affordable and environmentally friendly way and we now have a fantastic opportunity to bring our distinctive service to a wider community within Brighton & Hove. We are on the lookout for friendly and helpful drivers to join our growing team so I would urge anyone who has a bus licence to get in touch!”

The Big Lemon won Best Place to Work at the 2016 Brighton & Hove Business Awards, as well as Business of the Year. Starting rates for drivers are £11.10 per hour with £11.50 after the first three months. Staff also benefit from a company pension, free bus travel across the South of England and a staff fund which is 10% of the company’s annual profit.
