Yutong electric coach goes to Wattsway Travel

Wattsway Travel has become the third operator in the UK to operate a Yutong TCe12 electric coach.

The London-based operator’s newest addition to its fleet was aired to the public for the first time at the ITT Hub exhibition in Farnborough last week. It was displayed by its supplier, Pelican Bus and Coach.

On why he decided to purchase the coach, Director, Mark Watt, told Bus and Coach Buyer: “It’s the way forward. With the Mayor that we have in London at the moment, I think in the next five years if you are not electric then you will not be allowed in.”

Wattsway’s new coach is going to be used predominantly on home to school services. Mark said: “The school we are serving with this vehicle is looking to go all electric within the next three years with its transport.”

The addition of the TCe12 means the operator’s entire seven-strong coach fleet are now all Yutongs.

On how it feels to be one of the few operators in the country to run an electric coach, Mark said: “It’s special. I’ve only been an operator now for four years, so I think it’s special to be in this position.

“We are always pushing for better things. All of our coaches have defibrillators and I started out with Euro VI coaches. I have always been aware of the issues surrounding toxic air. I’ve always lived in London, so I have always been aware of emissions.”
