Women in Bus and Coach wins award for driving meaningful change

Women in Bus and Coach (WiBC) has been awarded the Viva Shield 2024, the premier honour of the Worshipful Company of Carmen. The organisation took the accolade at the Company’s Mansion House Awards Banquet.

The ceremony took place at Mansion House, the official residence of the Lord Mayor of the City of London and brought together distinguished figures from across the transport and logistics sectors to celebrate innovation and excellence.

The Viva Shield recognises the invention, principle, development, production, implemented system or other idea that has most notably advanced transport in Europe – with particular reference to road transport – in the past year. Women in Bus and Coach was selected for its work to drive meaningful change and create a more inclusive, representative and future-ready bus, coach and community transport sector. Its initiatives include the Inclusive Bus Cab Roadshow, the Period Positive Workplace campaign and its mentoring and ambassador programmes.

“This award belongs to every member of our network and every ally across the industry working to make real change happen” – Louise Cheeseman, Chair of Women in Bus and Coach

Louise Cheeseman, Chair of Women in Bus and Coach, said: “Receiving the Viva Shield is an incredible moment for Women in Bus and Coach. To be recognised by the Worshipful Company of Carmen – and in the historic surroundings of Mansion House – is not only a huge honour, but a powerful statement about the value of inclusion and innovation in shaping the future of transport. This award belongs to every member of our network and every ally across the industry working to make real change happen.”

The Worshipful Company of Carmen is one of the 110 Livery Companies of the City of London and has its roots in the transport and logistics trades dating back to 1517. Today, it plays a ceremonial and charitable role in the City, while continuing to champion progress, professionalism and public service in the transport sector.
