West Yorkshire seeks operators for franchised network
West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA) has started the search for operators to take part in its planned franchised bus network.
The Combined Authority has opened what it calls its ‘dynamic market’, a procurement tool, which is an open list of pre-approved operators, for the franchised system. This sets out strict criteria for any bus companies wanting to bid to run services in the region, which it says is designed to raise standards and ensure value for money.
WYCA is planning to form a franchised bus system in its region, under the name Weaver Network. It will see fares, routes and timetables set by the Authority, with bus operators accepted and registered onto the dynamic market invited to bid for contracts to run services.
It is hoped the first contracts can be awarded in spring/summer 2026, to start in 2027.
