Vintage Empress posters

Hastings based Empress Coaches has released two vintage style A3 posters. They are being sold in partnership with St Michael’s Hospice to raise funds for the ongoing rebuilding work after their recent fire. The limited run of prints are priced at £10 each plus £3.50 postage and packaging. A donation of £4 per print will go directly to St Michael’s Hospice.

Renowned artist, Bradley Hutchings, was commissioned to capture two periods of the ‘golden age of coach travel’: one from the 1930s and the other from the 1950s. Bradley was able to create the two artworks using old photographs of the Empress coaches from the private collection of Empress’ Stephen Dine. They feature the operator’s first coach, a 1929 Dennis 20-seater near to Hastings Pier. Founder Harry Philips is depicted riding his motorcycle into the shot. For the second image, Empress’s Bedford OB Plaxton 29-seater bought new in 1950 is pictured on the seafront.

The Empress prints can be purchased direct by calling 01424 430621 or email [email protected]

Stephen has also written a book, entitled ‘80 years of Empress of Hastings, the first 80 years of a family run coach business’. It charts the history of the company’s 80 years of business, having been established in 1929. It has 84 pages and over 160 photographs. It costs £10.00 with free postage and packaging. You can save £2.95 when ordering via [email protected] by leaving your contact telephone details and the operator will call you back.
