Treasury still holding back on coach support

But Baroness Vere is keen to support the industry

A meeting between MPs and Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the DfT, Baroness Vere, has resulted in the government still holding back on any coach support package.

Organiser of Honk for Hope, Jenna Rush of North East Coach Travel, reports that the Treasury is still holding back on sector specific support. However, she said in a Facebook post: “Baroness Vere is very aware of the issues we are facing and is keen to find ways to support the industry. She is working with the department for tourism to see what that support could be.”

As a result of this news, Jenna urges the industry to engage on a higher level with the government’s tourism body and tourism ministers to raise the profile of travelling on coaches during this time. She believes this will support her campaign’s work with the Treasury.

Jenna’s Facebook post continued: “Anyone who has an engaged MP who is supporting the sector now need to encourage a meeting with Nigel Huddleston to identify ways his department can work with the coach industry to encourage people to travel on coaches and to encourage venues to work with our industry.”
