Transport UK London Bus adds 13 Enviro100EVs

Alexander Dennis has supplied 13 Enviro100EV zero-emission buses to Transport UK London Bus for TfL services.

The Enviro100EV are the first next-generation Alexander Dennis electric buses for Transport UK London Bus, and among the first of the type to enter service on TfL services. They are used on route G1, which provides local links between Battersea and Streatham.

The Enviro100EV’s compact dimensions – 8.5m in length and just 2.35m wide – help drivers navigate tight turns and oncoming traffic in narrow streets. The ten-mile route loops to serve housing estates as well as St George’s Hospital, offering vital connections for South London communities without bringing tailpipe emissions into residential areas.

The Enviro100EV are powered by the Voith Electrical Drive System, with energy stored in 354kWh batteries. Monitoring through advanced AD Connect telematics is showing the buses’ energy consumption to be in line with the manufacturer’s prior modelling for route G1.

“Our drivers appreciate the well-designed cab environment and enjoy the smooth driveline, which helps to deliver an excellent passenger experience” – Paul Hennigan, Fleet and Facilities Director for Transport UK London Bus

Paul Hennigan, Fleet and Facilities Director for Transport UK London Bus, said: “The Enviro100EV is a bespoke zero-emission vehicle for a unique service, with impressive colleague feedback.

“Our drivers appreciate the well-designed cab environment and enjoy the smooth driveline, which helps to deliver an excellent passenger experience. From an engineering perspective, the bus is well designed and creatively makes superb use of space.

“Manufacturer support has also been first rate and the company looks forward to operating these vehicles over the coming years.”

“These buses demonstrate the very best of British manufacturing” – Lorna Murphy, TfL Director of Buses

Lorna Murphy, TfL Director of Buses, said: “Public transport plays a vital role in connecting communities and improving access to healthcare. People in south London rely on the G1 to get around and it is an essential link to St George’s Hospital. Locals will be delighted with a new state-of-the-art vehicle getting them from A to B and the addition of more electric buses to the area.

“These buses demonstrate the very best of British manufacturing, meeting the design challenge of building a bus that can negotiate the narrow streets on this route and helping to contribute to the wider effort greening the whole bus network. This adds to the significant progress that has already been made in the capital with more 25% of the fleet now zero emission.”
