Switch reveals new e1 electric bus

Switch Mobility is revealing its new 12m electric bus at the European Mobility Expo in Paris this week.

Designed under the Project Odin name, the bus is called Switch e1 and is the company’s first 12m electric bus designed for the European market, not to mention the first to be launched under the Switch Mobility brand. A preview of the vehicle was made at the Bus2Bus exhibition in Germany in April, where concept sketches were shown.

Peter Freedman, Chief Marketing and Sustainability Officer at Switch Mobility, told Bus and Coach Buyer the Switch e1 has been engineered by its team in the UK and is to be built at the company’s facility currently being constructed in Valladolid, Spain.

Boasting a monocoque design, the Switch e1 is designed to be one of the lightest 12m buses in Europe at less than 10,800kg. A seating capacity of 30 is listed, with an overall maximum passenger capacity of 93. A range of 390km from a 389KWh battery was quoted by Peter, which he said would give the bus a competitive position in the market. Fast charging is achieved in under three hours and A/C charging in seven hours, according to Switch Mobility. The Switch e1 also benefits from Switch’s technology including iAlert, enabling remote, real-time diagnostics and monitoring services, as well as digital battery management tools.

NMC battery technology is used, providing a lighter weight and higher density solution than conventional LFP batteries, delivering a lower total cost of ownership. It also has ZF hub motors.
