Suspected arson at North East Coach Travel

Police are treating a fire at North East Coach Travel’s depot as suspected arson.

Based in Seaton Burn, near Newcastle, the operator has sustained damage to a number of its coaches as a result of the fire.

No one has been reported as injured as a result of the fire and emergency services were able to extinguish the flames.

Pictures online of the fire show coaches burnt-out with just their shells remaining.

The blaze was reported to Northumbria Police at around 9.30pm last night (14 September 2022). Five firefighting appliances from across Tyne and Wear and one from Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service were on the scene in a matter of minutes to begin bringing the blaze under control.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “An investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the fire and enquiries are ongoing to identify those responsible. At present, officers are treating the fire as suspected arson.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact police via the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website or by calling 101 quoting log NP-20220914-1128.”
