Sapphire launched in north east

Arriva North East has upgraded its 7 service between Darlington and Durham which has become the latest manifestation of Sapphire, the operator’s premium brand. The 11 new Wrightbus Eclipse 2 Volvos used on the route were officially unveiled at Walworth Castle to the fanfare of a firework and lighting display. They represent an investment of £1.8m for the people of Durham and Darlington. Specifications on board include power points to charge phones and lap-tops, free wi-fi, audio visual facilities and seating features providing extra comfort for customers. Arriva North East is one of only four Arriva’s companies in the UK to get these premium buses and will be the first to launch live service information on its Arriva Bus App for its Sapphire service 7. The app will allow customers to track exactly where their bus is to help them plan their travel.

Area MD for Arriva North East, Nick Knox, said, ‘We’re delighted to be bringing the Sapphire brand to Durham and Darlington and we’re so excited to be announcing further investment into the local area. We have now invested nearly £7m in 2013, including the introduction of the gas buses. This Sapphire service will offer customers a new and improved experience, we’re confident that customers will be delighted with the enhancements and we will be looking forward to receiving their feedback over the coming months.’
