How do you fancy leading a multi-site engineering operation that delivers services which keep our communities connected?

Stagecoach South Wales provided 11 million passenger journeys last year, employing over 750 colleagues and operating over 350 vehicles from depots in Aberdare, Blackwood, Brynmawr, Caerphilly, Cwmbran, Merthyr and Porth. Not only are we a highly successful business, we’re also an integral part of the communities which we serve, connecting people through the operation of over 12 million miles of routes last year across the region! We’re currently recruiting an Engineering Director –akey member of the senior team in the business, who will be at the heart of delivering vehicle and property maintenance, so the importance of this role cannot be understated.

So what are we looking for?

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, we continue our road to recovery, restoring the confidence of our customers to travel regularly again with us. The demands associated with running engineering services in urban and rural environments remain, ensuring this is one of the most challenging and rewarding roles in the industry. Day to day you’ll ensure the smooth running of the engineering function across the business, responsible for safety and regulatory compliance, maximising productivity and delivery, whilst also focusing on providing strong leadership and developing an amazing team of multi-skilled engineering colleagues. You can’t do this role justice without amazing people around you, so you’ll develop an engaged, talented and effective team who are focused on delivery and continuous improvement. It goes without saying that you’ll need to make sure that vehicle and property maintenance is run efficiently, you’ll definitely be out and about in the depots leading by example. Visible presence is crucial – and it will give you an incredible exposure to the business set to continue to deliver on the performance improvement agenda.

If you are interested in this role, it’s fair to say we need some specific experience:

You’ll either be:

• At Engineering Director level, looking for a new challenge or change of scenery, or…

• A well-established Engineering Manager ofalarger location, Fleet Engineer or Chief Engineer withaproven track record who is ready to make the step up to Engineering Director.

• And whilst it’s preferable if you’ve got PCV experience, if you don’t but have the drive to make the switch from HGV, LGV, we will support you.

And…

• You’ll be able to evidence your ability to build high effective local teams, and provide trusted, inclusive and collaborative leadership.

• You’ll be able to demonstrate evidence of managing people effectively who then deliver excellent customer service, supporting our brand values and people agenda. We aim to be both an Employer of Choice and an Operator of Choice.

So what are we offering?

The salary range will be £65,000 – £80,000 pa dependant upon experience, at least 33 days leave each year including public holidays, discretionary annual bonus, relocation assistance, fully expensed company car, contributory company pension scheme, health care scheme and free travel on Stagecoach buses for you and your family with other Stagecoach retail discounts through the Hapi app.
