Reading makes contactless upgrade

As part of its efforts to help reduce the spread of the coronavirus, Reading Buses has upgraded contactless payments on its Ticketer ticket machines.

The company has configured its ticket machines so customers can purchase a greater range of tickets for their bus travel with a contactless bank card. The machines can now accept contactless payments from bank cards for transactions up to £45, more than the previous limit of £30.

Robert Williams, Reading Buses CEO, said: “Although it was recently announced that banks would be increasing the contactless limit to £45, not all vendors have been able to take advantage of this due to software limitations.

“We have worked with our ticket machine supplier, Ticketer, to help roll this out across our network.

“It’s yet another way that we are helping our employees and customers stay safe and healthy by limiting cash transactions on the bus.

“Of course, most of our great value fares are way below this increased amount, but we do have some cases where the relaxed rules will be of great use to customers.

“And, of course, this change is only applicable to bank cards as paying via Apple Pay or Google Pay is already more flexible.”
