Pennine Motor Services to close

From 16 May 2014, Pennine Motor Services will no longer trade as a bus company. According to a letter from the company’s Secretary, Maurice Simpson, published in a local newspaper, the closure was partly due to North Yorkshire County Council’s 20% reduction in concessionary travel payments. A further factor cited was competition on Pennine’s main route between Skipton and Barnoldswick. The company has been operating its orange and black buses through east Lancashire and the Yorkshire Dales since 1925. It operates the 210 (Malham – Skipton), 212 (Carleton – Skipton), 214 (Embsay – Skipton), 215 (Burnley – Skipton), 216 (Horse Close Circular in Skipton) and the 580 (Settle – Skipton).
