Oxford Bus seeks women drivers

Go-Ahead owned Oxford Bus Company has launched a recruitment drive to find more women drivers. The move is designed to tie in with Oxford’s International Women’s Festival, which lasts until 14 March. Tracey Colley, who joined Oxford Bus Company nearly 12 years ago, joined some of her colleagues in the march to launch the Festival. Out of a total of around 500 drivers with the company, around 5% of them are women.

Tracey said, ‘Men and women drivers approach the job differently and I have nothing but praise for my male colleagues but women bring many different qualities to the job. They can show great awareness of what’s going on around them and are very good with passengers.’
MD of Oxford Bus Company, Phil Southall, said, ‘Women make up two thirds of our passengers and it’s only right that women are well represented in the driver’s seat too. But we’d also like to recruit female engineering apprentices as well.’
