Number 89 consultation

Transport for West Midlands (TfWM), part of the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), is now looking at ways to improve the timetable of the 89 service. In particular, it is aiming to reduce a three hour wait for a return service from Solihull and Coventry. The rural route serves Solihull, Hampton in Arden, Meriden, Berkswell, Balsall Common and Coventry. It is operated by iGo and was introduced in September 2016 to replace a taxibus that people used to pre-book. TfWM is asking users of the service to give their views over proposed timetable changes. Two proposed changes to the service have been outlined for consideration by passengers. The consultation ends on 10 February 2017.

Director of Transport Services for TfWM, Pete Bond, said, ‘The No89 serves a very rural area within the West Midlands and was designed specifically to deliver a service for local residents. Since it was introduced last September, there are now 40% more people using the 89 than previously used the taxibus, so it is clearly proving its worth. However, from talking to customers and local groups, we now know people are unhappy at the length of time they have to wait for a return service from Solihull and Coventry so we are asking them to let us know what they think.’
