Northampton station traffic orders

New traffic orders have been put in place around Northampton’s new North Gate bus station following the gridlock caused on its opening day (see B&CB 1266, 7 March 2014). The solution was devised by Northampton Borough Council, Northamptonshire County Council, Northamptonshire Police and local bus operators. County Council Cabinet Member for Transport, Highways and Environment, Cllr Michael Clarke, said, ‘There has been tremendous improvement in the traffic situation around the bus interchange since the problems. We will continue to monitor the situation closely to make sure that all the measures introduced work as expected and continue to meet regularly until we are satisfied that this is done. Let’s not forget that this is an excellent new facility with many benefits, so it’s essential that everything works well.’
