New fares concern

New fares have been introduced by TfL, which have seen ticket prices rise by less than RPI on average (2.7%) and Travelcard fares rise 3.1% (RPI) on average. Public Transport Campaigner at Campaign for Better Transport, Martin Abrams, said, ‘Many Londoners will be relieved that fares are rising by less than originally planned. However, they are still going up three times faster than wages and adding to the squeeze on living standards. The Chancellor and the Mayor need to work together so the capital’s transport network gets the investment it needs, whilst ensuring that affordable ticket prices are the number one priority.’
