New £3m Arriva depot

Arriva Buses Wales has opened a new £3m depot in Rhyl, Denbighshire. The opening ceremony was attended by Welsh Government Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Infrastructure, Ken Skates. Having been 12 months in construction, the site features a solar ‘PV’ system generating electricity whenever the sun shines, LED lighting throughout the building (expected to enable energy reductions of at least 60%) and a drive through bus wash with water recycling system. Sky lights in the workshop should mean there will be no need to switch lights on in summer. The Minister and guests at Rhyl Depot were invited to take a tour of a prototype of the ‘New Bus for Wales’ Sapphire service, an ADL Enviro400, 13 of which will enter service in Wrexham in May. Visitors were also introduced to the new ONEArriva initiative at Rhyl Interchange, launched in partnership with Denbighshire County Council. This will see integrated ticketing between Arriva Trains Wales and Arriva Buses Wales.

Arriva Buses Wales MD, Michael Morton, said, ‘The opening of Rhyl Depot is a real milestone in our efforts to take environmentally friendly action and look for new ways of reducing Arriva’s impact on the planet’s resources, as part of our wider strategy with Destination Green. We are very proud of the finished project and are committed to providing quality services, not only for our customers but for our staff so they can continue to thrive in Wales.’
