‘Coach giants’ unite – NatEx appoints new MD and prepares to combine with Alsa
National Express has appointed Javier Martinez Prieto as its new managing director.

Javier Martinez Prieto
Javier has over 30 years’ experience working at Alsa, Mobico Group’s Spanish transport division, most recently serving as Purchasing and Maintenance Director. He is tasked with driving forward National Express’ strategic growth, strengthening its competitive position.
His appointment comes as National Express and Alsa prepare to join forces in January 2026 to create what is being described as a ‘pan-European coach powerhouse for the future’. The integration is expected to combine market expertise and unlock strategic efficiencies under the leadership of Victor Lopez, General Manager, Alsa Spain and UK. The National Express brand will remain unchanged.
