Metrodecker EVs back on the road

Metrodecker EVs have been given the go-ahead to get back out on the roads following temporary removal from service for precautionary safety checks.

The electric double-deckers were taken out of service by TfL following Switch Mobility’s swift and proactive action following a fire that engulfed two of its vehicles last week. The blaze at the Potters Bar Bus Garage saw six buses burn in total. A spokesperson from Switch Mobility confirmed the manufacturer took the proactive step of issuing a message requesting all Metrodeckers EVs be grounded while safety checks are made.

The safety inspections have now been carried out and Metrodecker EVs have been given a clean bill of health and put back in service.

A TfL spokesperson said: “Following a thorough investigation by Switch Mobility which TfL has reviewed, we are assured that its buses are safe to return to service. We apologise to any customers who experienced disruption while checks were being carried out.”

York’s Metrodeckers are now back in service after also being temporarily pulled from the roads following Switch Mobility’s message to do so.
