Meeting to explore CT concerns

A meeting is to be held on 13 May 2014 by the West Yorkshire Coach Operators Association to explore concerns over community transport (CT) in competition with bus services. The meeting is to take place at the Holiday Inn, Wakefield, M1 Junction 40, Queen Drive Ossett, Wakefield, WF5 9BE at 20.00. Speakers include Martin Allen of the Bus and Coach Association trade body and other operators being affected by CT. A letter has been sent by Martin Lee & Co Solicitors on behalf of Martin Allen to Transport Minister, Patrick McLoughlin, questioning the legality of the DfT’s position on CT services operating under permit being exempt from EU rules on operator licensing, as well as the requirement for Driver CPC.

The meeting will discuss CT and the effect on commercial businesses, looking at whether their operation is being affected and whether they would be entitled to compensation. State aid will be explained and in what capacity the authorities can award it. The EU Transport Directives and the 1985 Transport Act will also be fully explained.
