Industry supports World Car Free Day

Today (22 September) is World Car Free Day and the industry is coming out in support.

Reading Buses is openly encouraging motorists in West Berkshire to travel with them for free on forthcoming National Car Free Day. The operator has teamed up with West Berkshire Council to provide completely free travel in West Berkshire.

Free bus travel is also being offered in Guernsey.

Oxford Bus Company and Thames Travel are taking part in the global initiative, offering 15% discount on multi-trip tickets on their Oxford Bus Company’s mobile app. They will also be taking part in a social media awareness campaign to support the global scheme. The offer can be used to access the discount on World Car Free Day and is valid exclusively on the app.

Commenting on World Car Free Day, Graham Vidler, CPT Chief Executive, said: “World Car Free Day is the perfect time for drivers to swap their cars and use the bus. Small changes in the way we travel can create a big difference. To unlock these benefits, each of us needs to switch just one journey per month from car to bus by the end of this decade, two journeys per month by 2050. That’s it.”
