Hunger for travel post-lockdown?

Consumer insight organisation survey shows how eager Britons might be to travel once restrictions are lifted

According to a survey by consumer insight organisation Piplsay, 53% of respondents said they plan to take a trip, mostly leisure, as soon as the COVID-19 lockdown lifts.

The Piplsay survey was conducted nationwide in the UK in the month of April 2020. It received 3,411 online responses from individuals aged 18 years and older. It found 54% plan to make a leisure trip post-lockdown, with 35% reporting they will visit family and friends.

If not travelling immediately after the lockdown, 37% said they would see themselves travelling two to three months after the lockdown is over; 23% said they would only travel next year, 23% said they would wait six months and 13% were unsure. On what destinations they would be willing to travel to this year, 37% would be willing to make domestic travel, 22% would make international journeys and 22% would make both, while 19% were unsure.

Over half of respondents (58%) said they would trust the travel and hospitality industry to to follow all COVID-19-related safety protocols; with 23% unsure and 19% not trusting. Another figure is 63% of men and 53% of women trust businesses to follow all COVID-19-related safety protocols.
