Government responds to coach petition

A petition to attract more support for the coach industry has received a Government response.

The Government says it continues to work closely with the coach sector to understand what the ongoing risks and issues are, and how these could be addressed. It claims it is also reviewing opportunities for the industry to assist in wider recovery and resilience work.

The Government went on to mention the £40m School Restart funding announced earlier this month, intended to create extra capacity on school services while social distancing measures remain in place.

The response included a reminder of the financial support that has already been announced since March, including the Bank of England’s COVID Corporate Financing Facility (CCFF), HMRC’s “Time to Pay” arrangements, the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, the Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme and the Coronavirus Large Business Interruption Loan Scheme. It also reminds signers of the petition that £617m of additional funding is available to local authorities to enable them to make payments of up to £25,000 to businesses which are ineligible for the existing grants schemes because of the way they interact with the business rates system.

If the petition reaches 100,000 signatures, then the Government’s Petitions Committee is obliged to consider it for debate.
