French children’s travel ban

The annual French ban on the public transport of groups of children is on Saturday 3 August from 0000hrs to 2400hrs this year. This peculiarl French ban dates back to the country’s worst ever road accident on the equivalent day in 1982 in which 53 people died, most of them children, when a coach and several cars collided in torrential rain near Beaune. It is the French road network’s busiest day of the year, known as ‘Black Saturday.’
