Free Wi-Fi for Metroshuttle

Manchester city centre’s free Metroshuttle bus service now has free Wi-Fi for passengers. The new provision is being offered on all 20 buses on the route linking the city’s main rail stations, car parks, shopping areas and businesses. The fleet is owned by Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM). Manchester and Salford Councils, the Government’s Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) and TfGM worked together to fund this scheme.

Chair of the TfGM Committee, Cllr Andrew Fender, said, ‘Metroshuttle is a huge hit, with passengers making well over 2.5 million trips every year and I’m sure free Wi-Fi will only make it more a more attractive way to get around the city. We hope that quick and easy access to free Wi-Fi will give people another option to make best use of their travelling time whether it’s checking what time a film starts or messaging a friend. Metroshuttle coming online is one of the first steps in a Wi-Fi revolution which aims to make Greater Manchester a top 20 worldwide digital city region by 2020. We can’t wait to bring Metrolink on board in the coming weeks, bringing benefits to tram users right across the 60 mile tram network.’
