Fire destroys 30 First Call Travel vehicles

Police and the fire service are continuing to investigate a fire at First Call Travel’s depot at Pant Industrial Estate in Merthyr Tydfil. The blaze broke out during the early hours of Sunday 28 December. Emergency services were called to the scene at around 01.30. The inferno destroyed over 30 vehicles at the site and spread to a main workshop building. At its zenith, the flames were fought by eight appliances, whilst 57 firefighters in all attended the incident. At the time of going to press, the source of the fire had not been confirmed and is the subject of an ongoing investigation by South Wales Police and the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
First Call Travel operated private hire services, local buses, coach trips and taxi work, with its website saying it is able to transport from 16 to 70 people. It has a fleet of minibuses, full size coaches and taxis.

Police are appealing to any witnesses or anyone with information on the fire to call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting occurrence number 1400480867.
