F1 tech for new Sheffield StreetLites

First’s 27 new Wrightbus Streetlite MicroHybrids recently launched in Sheffield feature a braking power system similar to that used on Formula 1 World Championship cars. The new buses, each costing £160,000, feature motor generators as part of the braking system that reuse energy to power other parts of the bus, including the engine cooling system and air compressors. According to the manufacturer, the MicroHybrids are 30% more fuel efficient than a conventional single decker. These new buses help support the objectives of the Sheffield City Region Transport Strategy to reduce vehicle emissions. The new buses will serve customers on service 22 (Woodhouse – Nether Edge) and service 20/20A (Hemsworth – Hillsborough). The vehicles feature leather seats and free wi-fi connectivity.
