DVSA to make DCPC changes

Following representation from CPT UK, DVSA has confirmed that changes are to be made to the interpretation of the Driver CPC for new drivers entering the industry. The changes come in to immediate effect and confirm that those wishing to become bus and coach drivers will have to pass all four modules of the Driver CPC to acquire their PCV licence and driver qualification card. Alternatively, those who hold a pre-1997 car licence with a D1 101 restriction code will have the option of either passing all four modules or passing module one of the theory test, module three practical test and completing 35 hours of periodic training before acquiring their PCV licence and Driver Qualification Card.

CPT’s Operations Director, Stephen Smith, said, ‘We are delighted that DVSA has responded so quickly and positively to this important matter. CPT was keen to ensure that those wishing to join our industry were not put at an unfair disadvantage with a two tier testing system depending upon when they passed their car test (either before or after 1997 due to the unintended consequences of the D1 101 acquired rights Regulation change last summer which was now beginning to be applied). This forthcoming change will not only help in keeping operators’ time and costs down, but will be hugely beneficial when encouraging people to join the industry as it retains the same testing system for all new entrants.’
