Driver and children hospitalised in serious coach collision

A coach has been involved in what emergency services described as a serious collision in Essex. The driver of the coach has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police attended the scene of the incident this morning (10 October 2022), following reports of a two-vehicle collision including a coach carrying children on their way to school. The incident took place on the A12 access road to Spring Lane and Cymbeline Way in Colchester. Pictures of the accident in local newspapers show a coach having appeared to have mounted a roundabout and collided with a tree.

The coach was transporting children to Colchester County High School for Girls (CCHSG). All students involved have been accounted for and are safe.

Five students were taken to hospital accompanied by staff from the school and their parents were informed. All other pupils on the coach were collected in the school’s minibus and were accompanied to school by CCHSG staff. Paramedics attended the school to check all students.

A statement from CCHSG said: “We thank parents and staff for their calm and supportive response and send our best wishes to the coach driver for a full and speedy recovery.”
